Mr. Pozo is Principal and Founder of Advalurem Group with the primary responsibility of overseeing corporate strategy, business development and real estate investments. He also heads the Investment Committee. Mr. Pozo has over 17 years of institutional real estate experience, including positions in private equity, investment banking and management consulting. Throughout his career, he has overseen the acquisition and financing of more than $5 billion in commercial real estate.
Mr. Pozo oversaw the investment activities of a series of real estate funds managed by Madison International Realty, a value-added private equity firm with over $2 billion in assets under management. He was tasked with constructing a diversified portfolio of real estate investments for the firm’s institutional and private wealth clients. Prior to that, Mr. Pozo provided real estate investment banking services for clients of Credit Suisse. He carried out the firm’s strategy of making structured debt and equity investments in properties and portfolios located throughout the U.S. that were held on account and distributed to a network of institutional investors. He was one of the first professionals brought on to help establish NewStar Financial (NASDAQ: NEWS), a $2 billion specialized financial institution that focuses on high yield middle market corporate and real estate investments. Mr. Pozo began his career in the real estate advisory practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he provided valuation and analytical support to some of the world’s largest institutional investors.
Mr. Pozo holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate from New York University and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is an active member of Urban Land Institute, NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Association, and the real estate alumni programs of both his alma mater universities.
Mr. Scott is a Principal of Advalurem Group with the primary responsibility of overseeing all aspects of capital raising, fund formation and investor relations. He also oversees the day-to-day operations of the firm and is a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Scott has over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry including positions in private equity and investment banking. Over his career, he advised on $4 billion and invested in more than $750 million of commercial real estate.
Mr. Scott was a senior member of the acquisitions team at Strategic Capital Partners, a middle market, value-added real estate fund with over $1 billion of assets under management. Prior, Mr. Scott was a Principal at Longwing Real Estate Ventures, a New York based real estate opportunity fund sponsored by Dubai Investment Group. Mr. Scott also worked for Lazard, where he helped restructure and workout entity-level real estate investments in their fund portfolios. Mr. Scott began his real estate career with Prudential Securities, where he worked on a variety of transactions for real estate clients totaling $2 billion.
Mr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University. He is involved with the Real Estate Executive Council and Friends of Morningside Park.
Christopher Lorenzo joined Advalurem in 2019. Mr. Lorenzo’s primary responsibility is providing analytical support for the Company’s asset management and acquisition efforts. Previously, Mr. Lorenzo worked as a financial analyst for Papa Securities, an established financial services firm. Mr. Lorenzo holds a bachelor's degree in Management Engineering from Ateno De Manila University.
Michele McNamara provides financial and accounting support to the firm, bringing with her over fifteen years of real estate accounting experience in both public and private accounting. Prior to joining Advalurem, Ms. McNamara was the chief financial officer of Benchmark Real Estate Group where her role involved oversight of finance, corporate accounting, portfolio accounting, tax and treasury functions. Prior to Benchmark, she was an account manager at MayerMeinberg LLP, an east coast based accounting firm. Michele received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Hofstra University. She is a member of the New York State Society of Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Elysha Chang provides marketing and PR communication services to the firm. She specializes in strategic corporate messaging, integrated marketing campaigns and business-to-business communications. Ms. Chang partners with business owners in a variety of industries, delivering tailored marketing solutions that prioritize growth and relationship development. Prior to consulting, Ms. Chang served as Senior Marketing Manager at The Berman Group, a communications firm based in New York. Ms. Chang holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and received her MFA in Writing from Columbia University.
Nahal Nellis provides legal and investment policy support to the firm, bringing over fifteen years of legal expertise at top tier law firms in New York. Mr. Nellis also has completed numerous finance and corporate-real estate transactions for family offices and private funds. Mr. Nellis received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a law degree from Cornell Law School, and passed CFA level I.
Mr. Hurd serves as Chief Investment Officer of Waterton affiliates, Ultima Hospitality and Waterton Residential, where he helps to set strategy and develop the firm’s market focus. Prior to joining Waterton, Mr. Hurd was the President and Chief Investment Officer of Strategic Capital Partners (“SCP”), a privately held real estate investment management company. On behalf of institutional clients, SCP invested in over $1 billion of value-added multifamily, hotel and commercial properties across the country. Prior to that, Mr. Hurd spent almost 20 years at GE Capital Real Estate, where he was responsible for managing GE’s institutional real estate equity program. Mr. Hurd received his Bachelor’s Degree at Ohio Wesleyan University and his MBA at Drexel University and serves on the board of Catalyst Schools in Chicago.
Mr. Shah served as Head of Real Estate Capital Markets at J.P. Morgan Asset Management where he developed and executed capital market strategies across the firm. He also established the equity real estate group's structured finance investment platform that made over $500 million of debt and equity investments. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Mr. Shah was one of four individuals responsible for managing a $5 billion diversified real estate portfolio on behalf of AT&T Investment Management Corp. Mr. Shah earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Alvernia College and holds an MBA from Rutgers University.
